Umrah from Rabat-Salé airport: from the flynas flight to coming home

This guide is written for the son or daughter in Paris, Brussels, Montreal or Dubai who is organising a mother's or father's Umrah from a distance, and for the pilgrim in Rabat, Salé, Témara or Kénitra who wants to leave from the airport closest to home.

It brings together what dated official and press sources say about leaving from Rabat-Salé, from the flight to the trip home. Where a source says nothing, we say so instead of guessing. Everything here is about the journey; questions about the rites themselves belong with an imam or scholar you trust.

Can you leave for Umrah from Rabat-Salé?

Yes. The airport that serves Rabat, Salé and the towns around them has a direct flight to Jeddah, operated by flynas1. Everything published about the route is on our page on Rabat to Jeddah flights.

For a family, the main gain is distance. A parent who lives in Salé or Témara can start the journey at an airport close to home, without first travelling to another city with a suitcase. For an older traveller, that shorter first leg is worth a lot.

The catch is frequency. With only a handful of flights each week on the route, the flight days decide how long the trip lasts and when your parent comes home, not the other way round. Start by asking which days the plane flies, then build the rest of the plan around them.

Planning from abroad around a route that flies a few days a week

From Paris or Montreal it is tempting to pick the dates that suit your own leave, then look for a flight. On the Rabat route, work the other way round. We do not publish flight days or departure times, because they are not in the sources we have read and airlines change them between seasons: get them from flynas first, on its website or app, for the outbound and the return.

What that changes for a family organising at a distance:

  • Fix both flights before the hotel. On a route that opened with 1 flight a week1, the return date is known the moment you book, so book it then.
  • Build in slack on the Moroccan side. A missed flight from Rabat-Salé may mean days, not hours, before the next one, so the drive or taxi to the airport needs a wide margin.
  • Arrange the ride from where you are. The options depend on your parent's town, as our guide to getting to Rabat-Salé airport shows; whether an app-booked taxi can be booked or paid from a foreign phone is not stated in the sources, so test it in the app before the day.
  • If you fly in to see your parent off, check your own arrival against their flight day, not the other way round.

If a trip offered from Rabat mentions the Makkah Route, ask in writing what is meant: at Rabat-Salé it serves Hajj pilgrims only4, as our page on Hajj from Rabat-Salé airport explains.

What has changed at Rabat-Salé since your last trip home?

If you last flew home through Rabat-Salé a year or two ago, you may be planning your parent's Umrah from memories that are now out of date. Here is what changed, in date order, one line each; the detail of each change is on the page that covers it (airport transport, flights, Hajj).

When What changed at Rabat-Salé
January 2026 A shuttle bus from the airport to Rabat, run by ONDA3
5 January 2026 App-booked taxis for Rabat, Salé and nearby towns2
4 May 2026 First Makkah Route flight at Rabat-Salé, for Hajj pilgrims only7
4 July 2026 flynas opens the direct Rabat–Jeddah route1

For a family organising from Lyon or Montreal, the ground transport matters more than it looks. A parent coming home from Umrah no longer depends on someone being free to drive to the airport, and card payment means a pilgrim who lands with riyals and no dirhams is not stuck at the kerb.

One change people talk about is missing from the list: a new terminal. We have not read a dated, reliable source on its opening, its size or what moves there, so we give no details. Ask the airline or ONDA before the trip if it matters for your parent's day.

Which official dates frame the Umrah season?

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has published the calendar of the Umrah 1448 season: visas and arrivals from 31 May 2026, and Nusuk permits and entry to Makkah from 1 June 20265.

The end of the season is fixed by three dates5:

Stage Official date
Last visas issued 1 Shawwal 1448 (9 March 2027)5
Last entry into Saudi Arabia 15 Shawwal (23 March 2027)5
Last departure 30 Shawwal (7 April 2027)5

What does that mean when you fly from Rabat? With few flights a week, book the return with a margin before the last departure date, rather than in the final days of the season5. If the last return flight before 7 April 2027 does not suit, that is the moment to consider another airport, not the week of departure5.

Count back from the confirmed flight day, not from a rough plan, when booking the meningococcal vaccine: for Umrah 1447 (2026) the Saudi rule was at least 10 days before arrival, and the 1448 document has not been found9; which vaccines are accepted is set out on guideomra.ma's meningitis page for Umrah pilgrims.

Seven checks before you book a parent's seat

Step by step

  1. Ask flynas which days and times the Rabat–Jeddah flight operates for your dates, in both directions.
  2. Compare the return date with the last departure date of the 1448 season5.
  3. Talk to your parent's doctor about the meningococcal vaccine well before the trip9.
  4. Decide how your parent will reach Rabat-Salé airport and how they will get home again.
  5. If your parent wants to start in Madinah, read the onward options on the flights page.
  6. Name one person in Morocco who can be reached on the day of departure and on the day of return.
  7. Keep in writing everything the trip organiser promises.

If your parent is travelling with a group, ask the organiser the same questions: which flight, which day, who meets them on arrival in Jeddah, and who to call if something goes wrong.

If you have a practical question about organising the trip, the publisher, Wiki Tours International, can answer it from Casablanca: it has no office in Rabat, Salé or Kénitra. Its WhatsApp number is not published yet; until it is, the button below leads to the contact page.

Still to be confirmed

  • The flight days and departure times of the Rabat–Jeddah route, and its current frequency after the summer announcement.
  • Whether other airlines will run a regular direct route from Rabat-Salé to Saudi Arabia, or seasonal flights from Rabat for the coming Ramadan.
  • The new terminal at Rabat-Salé: its opening date and what moves there.
  • Whether the app-booked taxi accepts a foreign phone number or card.
  • Airport parking charges.
  • The Saudi health document for the 1448 season9.
  • Whether relatives seeing a pilgrim off may enter the departures hall.

Families ask

Is there a direct flight from Rabat to Saudi Arabia?

Yes, flynas flies direct between Rabat and Jeddah1. Its launch, announced frequency and the onward options to Madinah are on our Rabat to Jeddah flights page.

Does the Makkah Route speed things up for Umrah pilgrims at Rabat-Salé?

No. The Makkah Route reached Rabat-Salé airport for Hajj 2026 and applies to Hajj, not Umrah4.

Is the new terminal at Rabat-Salé open?

We have not found a dated, reliable source on the opening of a new terminal at Rabat-Salé, so we do not describe one. Check with the airline or ONDA, Morocco's airports authority, before the trip.

When does the current Umrah season close?

The last entry into Saudi Arabia is on 15 Shawwal (23 March 2027), and the last departure on 30 Shawwal (7 April 2027), according to the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah5.
